James Eadie presented, in absolute exclusive for Italy, a very rare bottling of Laphroaig 10 Years Old – Refill Barrels. An exceptional release, produced in just 600 bottles and distributed throughout the country by Sagna SpA., a historic signature of excellent imports since 1928.
What makes this release a true object of desire is a detail that is far from negligible: the name of the legendary Islay distillery is explicitly stated on the label. This is an exceptionally rare circumstance in the contemporary panorama of independent bottlers who, for over twenty years, have had to deal with extremely strict restrictions on naming rights, often resorting to pseudonyms or generic terms.
A philological return to Laphroaig's historical style
This Single Malt, distilled on September 22, 2015 and bottled in 2026 full-degree (Cask Strength), represents a clear declaration of intent by Rupert Patrick, great-grandson of the founder and the driving force behind James Eadie's modern approach. The project stems from a profound historical memory: recreating the ancestral, uncompromising profile that bound Patrick to the distillery during his years at Beam Suntory, spent side by side with the historic distillery manager. Founded in 1815 by brothers Donald and Alexander Johnston, Laphroaig has built its legend on unique natural elements: a cove protected by the Atlantic Ocean and pure water that flows through heather hills and dense peat bogs before entering the traditional stills.
The result enclosed in this independent selection is an authentic “Islay powerhouse”. In the glass, the balance is masterful: the classic medicinal notes of iodine and seaweed blend with lemon oil, vanilla, and a dense smoke of peat and ash. An aromatic profile from another era, which dialogues perfectly with delicate fruity and smoky nuances. It's no secret that this distinctive complexity has even won over the palate of King Charles III over the years.
