The world of gin is enriched by a new, fascinating expression that breaks down geographical boundaries to combine French elegance with the vibrant warmth of the Caribbean. Citadelle Gin, the famous brand of Maison Ferrand, announced the launch of Bajan, a limited edition that represents a true “liquid bridge” between Cognac and Barbados.
Distributed in Italy by Caribbean Company, this distillate is born from the inspiration of Alexandre Gabriel, owner and Master Blender of the Maison, with the aim of blending the refined know-how French distillery with the botanical richness of the Caribbean island.

A soul torn between two worlds
The name itself, Bajan, is a direct tribute to the local culture: in the Barbadian dialect, the term refers to the people, customs, and identity of the island. Production could only take place in an iconic location: the historic Stade's West Indies Rum Distillery (SWIRD), the cradle of the famous Planteray Rum, where Citadelle's mastery has met carefully selected native ingredients.
The aromatic profile: molasses and pink grapefruit
What makes Citadelle Bajan unique is its base and choice of botanicals. For the first time, the identity of a Citadelle gin is expressed through:
- Molasses: A product derived from sugar cane and a symbol of the island's "ronera" tradition, which gives the distillate a soft and rounded texture.
- Pink Grapefruit: Grown in Barbados since the 18th century, it is peeled by hand to capture its intense aroma and juicy shine.
- Hibiscus (Sorrel): Used to add aromatic complexity and deep cultural value.
- Laurel and Lemongrass: Typical local ingredients that provide freshness and a distinctive herbaceous note.
The result is a vibrant, citrusy gin that retains the unmistakable Citadelle signature while adding an authentic Barbadian edge.

Alexandre Gabriel and the Les Excentriques collection
Citadelle Bajan joins The Excentriques, Citadelle's experimental collection dedicated to exploration and extreme craftsmanship.
“At Citadelle we never stop exploring,” he said. Alexandre Gabriel. “Bajan is what happens when our passion for gin meets the heartbeat of Barbados, a place we know intimately and hold dear.”.
