The world of premium spirits is preparing to experience an unprecedented sensory short circuit, an ideal bridge between the warm Mediterranean and the windswept coasts of the Isle of Islay. On the occasion of the famous Ardbeg Day — the global event that every year, on the last Saturday of the Festival of Music and Malt (Fèis Ìle), calls to action fans of the distillery — this year’s release promises to redefine the very concept of “peaty paradox.”.
Is called Ardbeg Sweet and it's the new, highly anticipated one Limited Edition which combines Scottish irreverence with the timeless charm of 1960s Italian cinema. An explicit invitation to enjoy the sweet life…but strictly in perfect Islay style.
The Peated Paradox: When Marsala Marries Ex-Bourbon
The true magic of this limited edition lies in its liquid architecture, masterfully curated by Gillian Macdonald, Master Blender of the distillery. Ardbeg Sweet in fact it is born from the union of a batch of rare malt, patiently aged in Marsala barrels (in the sweetest version of the famous Sicilian fortified wine), with the classic and unmistakable Ardbeg matured in ex-bourbon barrels.

A meeting of islands that enhances the magnetic contrast between sweetness and smokiness that has always fascinated the brand's devotees. As Macdonald herself emphasizes, the result is an extraordinary blend in which the Mediterranean radiance dialogues with the rugged, smoky authenticity of Scotland.
Tasting Notes: An Islay Pantry in a Sicilian Garden
Upon sensory analysis, Ardbeg Dolce presents itself as a journey guided by slow gestures and profound complexity:
- Graduation: 47.8% ABV
- Color: A warm, bright orange.
- On the Nose: The rich and complex impact sees the smokiness soften amidst notes of apricot, raisins, dates, and tart apples, with a lively citrus kick from the orange marmalade. Adding a few drops of water brings out the earthier, saltier notes: roasted mushrooms, pine needles, capers, olives, and salted fish. A veritable Islay pantry meets Sicilian garden.
- On the Palate: The opening is spicy and warm, dominated by cinnamon, star anise, and licorice. The sweetness of smoked maple wood, baked dates, honeycomb, and dark chocolate unfolds, before closing with dried herbs and salted nuts.
- The Finale: Long, layered and lingering, featuring notes of smoked applewood, dried tobacco, campfire embers and the iconic, rich peat oils.

Ardbeg Day 2026: the event in Milan
If at global level the absolute preview will be reserved by May 26th to the members of the Committee and to the Ardbeg Embassies (with general distribution in the best retail outlets starting May 30th), the key event in our country already has a very specific date and location.
In Italy, the’Ardbeg Day will be celebrated on June 14 in Milan, at the’Progress Inn (Via Progresso 22), from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM. It will be an atmospheric evening where Mediterranean glamour blends with Scottish spirit, with themed culinary delights, retro games, and a soundtrack blending local street music and British folk. An unmissable opportunity to pour a dram, slow down, and finally enjoy "sweet Islay.".
